Maxime is the founder of ESPRIT Law & IP Agency, a leading firm in the fields of intellectual property, entertainment, technology, marketing/advertising, and litigation specialized in these areas of activity. He is also a corporate director and volunteers with non-profit organizations.
Maxime is recognized in the legal community as a leading lawyer and a trailblazer in all of the firm's practice areas. He provides legal support to his clients in drafting and negotiating contracts, as well as in litigation and dispute resolution in these fields. His clientele primarily consists of entrepreneurs and large companies operating in the arts & entertainment, technology, video gaming, digital media, advertising, and retail sectors.
Maxime has been repeatedly recognized as one of Canada’s best lawyers, notably by prestigious publications such as Best Lawyers in Canada, World Trademark Review, Lexpert, and as a finalist for the Lexpert Rising Stars awards (best lawyers under 40). He is also a recipient of the 2023 Order of Merit awarded by the Faculty of Law of the University of Ottawa in recognition of his contributions to the legal profession and his dedication to various non-profit organizations. In 2025, he received a merit award from the Quebec Bar in recognition of his social engagement.
In the field of intellectual property, Maxime advises his clients on matters of registration, litigation, and licensing, particularly regarding trademarks, copyrights, and domain names. Maxime also provides legal advice concerning the commercialization of patents and patented products. He has served as lead counsel in numerous intellectual property disputes, successfully representing his clients in legal proceedings or helping them reach settlements when appropriate.
In the area of entertainment law, he represents producers, broadcasters, and distributors from both the U.S. and Canada concerning all aspects of the development, production, licensing, and distribution of film, television, stage, and music projects.
In his technology law practice, Maxime advises his clients on negotiating and drafting agreements covering all aspects inherent to technology commercialization, including outsourcing, software licensing, systems integration, and IT services.
Maxime is a registered trademark agent with extensive experience in the registration process and defending trademark rights. Throughout his career, he has managed significant trademark portfolios, both in Canada and internationally. A wide range of clients, including startups and Fortune 500 companies, rely on him to manage their valuable trademark assets and defend them when necessary.
Over his many years of practice, Maxime has also handled hundreds of cases in administrative and regulatory law, particularly regarding personal information protection, access to information, electronic communications, competition, and marketing/advertising. Specifically, in the area of personal information, he develops policies, conducts audits, and drafts agreements related to the processing and transfer of personal information.
Before founding ESPRIT Law & IP Agency, Maxime co-founded St. Lawrence Law Firm LLP and worked at two highly reputable Canadian firms, namely Stikeman Elliott and Heenan Blaikie.
Governance and Management:
Maxime spends much of his free time volunteering with non-profit organizations, either as a board member or philanthropist. Currently, Maxime serves as Chairman of the National Theatre School of Canada. He is also Vice-President of the Canadian Bar Association - Quebec Devision and a member of GRIS’s fundraising campaign cabinet.
Over the years, he has developed strong skills in governance and business management. Maxime is an experienced entrepreneur and executive director with a proven track record in developing and implementing strategic goals, adopting a 360-degree vision that considers legal, human, financial, and operational needs and challenges.
Maxime is passionate about arts and culture, and he is primarily involved with organizations working in these fields.
